Mel Kiper's 2012 NFL Mock Draft Goes Defense For Chiefs Again

Photo

Mel Kiper has another 2012 NFL mock draft out and in this version the Kansas City Chiefs stay on defense and pick Boston College LB Luke Kuechly. Kiper had the Chiefs selecting Penn State DT Devon Still in his last mock draft.

Here's a snippet of what Kiper said about Kuechly:

Romeo Crennel On Matt Cassel's Deep Ball And The KC Chiefs 2012 Offense

Photo

Last week the Kansas City Chiefs new offensive coordinator, Brian Daboll, spoke to the KC media for the first time and described what he envisions the Chiefs offense looking like next season. He used the word attack, talked about different formations, no-huddle, play-action and all that good stuff. Read all about that here.

The man who hired Daboll, Chiefs head coach Romeo Crennel, talked with the KC media on a Wednesday conference call about some of the differences and similarities with the Chiefs offense last year and moving forward under Daboll.

"I think some of it will be the same, but I think Brian will add his touch to it," Crennel said. "He's already said that he wants to attack a little bit more, so I think that probably in his game plan he's going to devise ways to try to get the ball down the field maybe a little bit more often than we did last year."

Hmm...downfield? That's not really one of Cassel's strengths.

Arrowheadlines: Chiefs News 2/16

Photo

Good morning! Another unusually full day of Kansas City Chiefs news considering we are in the offseason. Keep reading for free agent talk, more about Kelly Gregg, and a transcript of yesterday's Q&A with head coach Romeo Crennel. Enjoy.

In Romeo Crennel's perfect world, the Chiefs already would have started the process of teaching new offensive coordinator Brian Daboll's system to quarterbacks Matt Cassel and Ricky Stanzi and some of the other players.

That process will have to wait for a couple of months because of changes to the NFL's collective bargaining agreement.

Crennel Expects Offensive Change, But Must Wait Before Chiefs Can Practice from KC Star

In addition to Crennel, the Chiefs coaching staff is comprised seven offensive assistants, five defensive assistants, two special teams coaches and two strength and conditioning experts.

Five staff members were added, one was promoted and 10 were retained.

"I think that it's a good group; they're good teachers," Crennel said. "They're going to be hard workers, good football people and there will be good staff cohesiveness and we'll be able to translate that to the players in the locker room and on to the field."

Kansas City Chiefs February 2012 Approval Poll: Clark Hunt

Photo

Three years ago this month we did our very first approval poll on Kansas City Chiefs owner Clark Hunt. And in those 36 months, his approval numbers have never been as low as they were in January 2012 --34 percent.

It's a new month so there will be new opinions.

More Approval Polls: Scott Pioli | Romeo Crennel

The Chiefs owner made an appearance on radio row at Super Bowl XLVI in Indianapolis in the week leading up to the Super Bowl (technically February) and talked about the Chiefs salary cap, free agency situation and the end of the 2011 season.

Go ahead and vote in our poll. Do you approve of the job the Chiefs owner is doing?

Previous results are posted after the jump.

2012 NFL Mock Draft Sends Trent Richardson To KC

Photo

Besides offensive tackle, one of the popular selections for the Kansas City Chiefs in the various 2012 NFL mock drafts out on the web is Alabama running back Trent Richardson. If you watched college football this year, you know about Richardson.

NFL Network's Mike Mayock on Wednesday said: "I think the last guy where you banged the table this hard was Peterson when he was the 7th pick."

Whoa. That's pretty crazy, if you think about it. It's probably why Charley Casserly sent Richardson to the Chiefs with the 11th pick in his mock draft for CBS Sports.

"Too good a player to pass up -- Richardson truly boasts top-10 ability," Casserly wrote of the Chiefs pick.

Here's another mock draft that has the Chiefs picking Richardson. I can see the logic and, if he truly is one of those running backs that only comes around every few years, then I could be persuaded into taking him. That said, a running back in the top half of the first round isn't my style. (Then again, my style hasn't resulted in me getting a job as a GM so...)

Casserly's mock draft has the Chiefs selecting 11th but we won't know that for sure until next week when the coin flip is held.

NFL Network's Mike Mayock said of Robert Griffin III: "Grab a hold of the seat of your pants & we're going for a ride. It might be really special, & on the other hand it might not."

What is RG3 saying to his former coach in the picture above?

Manning was eyeing a return in week 16 after a scripted red zone practice session. He also had a previously unknown 4th neck surgery. His arm strength then was at roughly 80% and didn't throw farther than 25 yds.
